Silva Reveals Cesar Gave Team Confidence For Penalties

Thiago Silva has revealed that before the start of the penalty shootouts against Chile, the Brazilian shot stopper Julio Cesar had told his team members that he would save three shots from going into the post.

The score line of the Brazil Vs Chile match was 1-1 at the completion of the 30-minute extra time which took the match into the shootouts. Both teams were in with a 50-50 chance at that point of time. But, Cesar ended up making all the difference eventually with a couple of wonderful saves.

The Brazilians were a bit lucky as well at the end as the last penalty shot by Chile rebounded after hitting the bar.
It was basically a great football match in which the players from both teams showed tremendous skills.

Talking to the reporters in the post match press conference, Silva said, “Our goalkeeper told us that he would be making as many as three saves during the shootouts and that gave us a lot of confidence.”

When asked about his team being given a very tough fight by Chile, Silva said, “It was bound to happen. They are a fantastic side. They pushed us to the limits, but, there is such belief and self confidence in our camp that we never got uncomfortable with the situation.”

“The team is completely united right now and that’s always a good thing especially with big games coming up. The players want to win this tournament for one another and for the millions of people of this country.”

The win against Chile saw the Brazilians making their way to the Round of 8 where they will take on an impressive looking Colombian side. That quarter final match will take place on 5th of July.
